Is This Right for Me?
-
The Music Rooms is a neurodivergent-led music program offering NDIS-accessible workshops and mentoring — created by and for autistic, ADHD, and otherwise neurodivergent people. It’s a place to explore sound, creativity, and identity in a culturally safe, non-clinical space.
-
Our program is primarily for NDIS participants aged 18 and over, who are neurodivergent — including autistic, ADHD, sensory-sensitive, and otherwise ND people. Most participants use self-managed or plan-managed NDIS funding. You don’t need formal experience or a specific label to feel welcome — if our space feels right, it probably is.
-
Not at all. Many people come to try music for the first time. But if you are experienced, we’ve got professional studios, gear, and mentors ready to support serious creative work. Whether you want to explore or produce a track, we’ll meet you there.
-
No diagnosis is required to join, but most participants use NDIS funding, which typically involves a diagnosis. If you’re unsure, we can help you or your support coordinator understand what’s needed.
-
That’s why we exist. Our space is neurodivergent-led and designed with lived experience in mind. No pressure to mask, perform, or fit a system that doesn’t fit you. You’re welcome to show up as you are.
What Happens in a Session?
-
You can explore beat-making, DJing, songwriting, podcasting, recording, or sound design — or just play with sound to regulate or connect. It’s real music gear, shaped around your energy and interests.
-
Group workshops are collaborative and social — perfect for jamming, writing together, or learning by doing. 1:1 mentoring gives you focused time to develop skills, finish a project, or work in a quieter space. Both are led by ND music professionals.
-
Each session has a structure: we check in, map a plan, and then dive into music — using tools like Ableton, DJ decks, or mics depending on your focus. Breaks are welcome anytime, and you can always switch gears if needed.
-
Yes! Bring lyrics, beats, instruments, or just an idea. You can focus deeply on one thing or try different activities over time — it's your creative journey.
-
Absolutely. Stimming, movement, sensory tools, and flexible pacing are all welcome. We design the space so you don’t need to ask — just do what feels right.
How Do I Access This?
-
Yes. We work with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. Most people claim sessions under Capacity Building or Core – Social & Community Participation.
-
No, we’re not NDIA-registered — which means we can’t work with agency-managed plans. But if you're self- or plan-managed, you’re good to go.
-
Most participants use: Capacity Building – Increased Social & Community Participation, or Core Supports – Social & Community Participation. We can help you or your support coordinator figure out what’s best.
-
Yes. We regularly talk to coordinators, therapists, and plan managers to help with approvals, funding fit, and reports.
-
Plan-managed: we invoice your plan manager. Self-managed: you pay upfront and claim back. Private pay is also welcome if NDIS isn’t an option.
How Does Online Work?
-
Yes — we offer both 1:1 and group sessions online, using simple tools and flexible formats. Great if you’re remote, sensory-sensitive, or just prefer your own space.
-
A phone, tablet, or computer with internet is enough. We’ll help you set up browser-based or free tools — no fancy gear required.
-
Definitely. You can join with your camera off, communicate by chat, take breaks, or just listen. We’ll shape the session to fit your needs.
Trust, Safety & Support
-
Our team is made up of neurodivergent musicians, producers, DJs, and sound artists — all with lived experience and industry knowledge. We’re not here to assess you — we’re here to make music with you.
-
Because we get it. We've been in spaces that didn’t work for us. That’s why we design everything — from the lighting to the way we talk — with access, identity, and comfort in mind.
-
All communication is valid here — speaking, typing, gestures, AAC, stimming, or silence. You’ll never be corrected or rushed.
-
Yes. Bring a friend, carer, or support worker — they can join in or just be there. No extra cost, no justification needed.
-
It’s okay. You can take a break, step outside, stim, or pause completely. We don’t expect you to mask or push through — we expect you to be yourself.
